Molecular Sieve

Molecular sieves based technology is used for removal water from natural gas, associated gas and CO2. It is often applied in systems where low dew points are required. Molecular sieves and silica gel are commonly used solid desiccants in the oil & gas industry.

About the product

Strict dew point requirements are dictated by process conditions downstream, e.g. gas compression or LPG recovery. Dew points obtained by molecular technology easily go beyond values achieved with absorption (glycol) or Low Temperature Separation (LTS) technology, and can be as low as -80°C or even -100°C (<10ppm).

Considering the amount of impurities to be removed most common configuration is a multi-column continuous batch operation. With one or more columns in dehydration mode and the remaining column in regeneration mode in an automated sequence, uninterrupted operation is achieved.

For the regeneration mode gas can be obtained directly from the process itself or from an external source. Preparation for the next cycle is performed by consecutive heating and cooling of a saturated column.

Our approach

Designing many of these systems we have been able to lift this technology to a higher level. Frames works closely together with reputable molsieve suppliers in the industry. Frames’ added value goes beyond the selection of the best suitable solid desiccant by also considering the number of columns, switching sequence, heat conservation, re-use of regeneration gas etc.

Overall we thoroughly investigate the optimum balance between CAPEX and OPEX taking into account the expected life time of desiccant material.
