Fractionation

Fractionation technology is used to recover and increase the purities of valuable light hydrocarbons, e.g. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and C5+ gasoline. The separation process is based on distillation by means of controlled heating and cooling, thus exploiting the difference in boiling points of the light hydrocarbons.

About our fractionation technology

Natural gas is always a mixture of mainly hydrocarbons. Depending on requirements related to downstream process, availability of infrastructure, etc. fractionation technology is used to recover and increase the purities of the valuable light hydrocarbons. The separation process is based on distillation by means of controlled heating and cooling, exploiting the difference in boiling points of the light hydrocarbons. The process uses fractionating columns named after the hydrocarbon that is boiled off. The LPG/C3+ used to be flared but is still valuable and can be used as an alternative to petrol for cars and as a feedstock in the chemical industry.
